ANUSHA SALHAN
MEYP
Founder of Per Capita Media & Member of European Youth Parliament
Anusha Salhan is a student journalist and youth advocate, dedicating herself to represent the diverse perspectives of young people and champion youth political participation and engagement. Her work spans local, national and international levels, as former Chair of Worcestershire Youth Cabinet (2023-2025), Founder of the UK’s first national publication “open for all” – Per Capita Media, and as a Member of the European Youth Parliament.
Co-Founded by Anusha Salhan in August 2023, Per Capita Media is a progressive, independent national publication open for all university, sixth-form and secondary school students across the UK, covering News, Features & Culture. To date, the publication has student contributors from Oxford University, the University of the Arts, London (Central St Martins & London College of Fashion) and UCL.
With the national media being largely inaccessible for most young people and student publications being confined to university campuses, Per Capita is the latest of Anusha’s community contribution following a long line of activism and community service. Alongside a team of students and academics from the University of Cambridge, Oxford University, UAL (London College of Fashion & Central St Martins) and contributors from secondary schools, Anusha has shaped the editorial vision for the publication by expanding the scope of Per Capita in Secondary Schools. She has launched the publication’s successful Dialogue scheme, which offers training for students across the UK to engage in the media.
As a Member of European Youth Parliament, she advocates for causes such as cross-border harmony, sustainability and youth-driven action towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Anusha was nominated as a finalist for the ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Community’ Awards at the Inspirational Youth Awards 2024.
As Chair of Worcestershire Youth Cabinet, Anusha’s work ranges from chairing cabinet meetings, chairing roundtable discussions with Council members and working with her cabinet to action projects in Worcestershire. She has worked with Rt Honourable Nigel Huddleston (MP for Mid-Worcestershire). Her work in the local cabinet has included working with Robin Walker MP (Worcester), Tom Collins MP (Worcester) and Steve Mackay (Cabinet Member for Children and Families); co-chairing a meeting with Cllr Andy Roberts and Stephen Eccleston to discuss funding and allocation to youth services and the importance of mental health provision in schools and youth groups in Worcester and nationally; and consulting a committee about the importance and future of safe spaces and zones in Worcester to design and repair youth spaces as well as representing Worcestershire to create Worcestershire’s first full youth manifesto.
Most recently, Anusha has worked on increasing access and understanding of mental health services in Worcester, working with representatives of NHS England, the County Council and young people themselves to begin production of materials to be distributed to all schools in Worcester and placed in pharmacies.
